Accessibility
Puzzle is built to be played by touch, keyboard and screen reader. This page lists the settings that exist today, how they work and where the game still falls short.

Settings
All four switches are in Me → Settings. They’re saved on this device and apply straight away.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Sound | Short tones for keys, tiles and wins. Sound can only start after your first tap or key press. |
| Vibration | Gentle buzzes on phones that support web vibration. iPhone and iPad browsers don’t. |
| Colour assist | Blue and orange tiles with ✓ (right spot), ↔ (in the word, wrong spot) and × (not in the word). Shared grids use 🟦 and 🟧. |
| Reduce motion | Turns off tile flips, shakes and confetti. It’s on automatically when your device asks for less motion. |
Keyboard controls
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| A to Z | Type a letter in a word puzzle. |
| Backspace or Delete | Remove the last letter. |
| Fifth letter | Checks the guess. There is no Enter step. |
| Tab and Shift+Tab | Move between buttons, word tiles and links. |
| Enter or Space | Press the focused button, or pick and unpick a word in Groups. |
| Esc | Close a sheet that has a close button. |
- Holding a key down types the letter once, not over and over.
- Shortcuts with Ctrl, Alt or Cmd are left to your browser.
- Typing pauses while a sheet is open or while you’re in a text box, such as your display name.
- Every control shows a visible focus ring.
Screen readers
- After each guess, the game announces every letter with its result, such as “R in the word, wrong spot”, and how many guesses are left.
- Keys on the on-screen keyboard say what each letter has shown so far, such as “R, in the word, wrong spot”.
- Groups words are toggle buttons that report whether they’re picked. Found groups and “one away” are announced.
- Stars are read as “2 of 3 stars”. In friend games, each guess says who made it, and a friend’s typing is described.
- A Skip to the game link comes first on the page.
Touch, zoom and reading
- Buttons and keys are sized for thumbs, and the layout fits screens 320 pixels wide.
- Pinch-zoom is never blocked.
- These help pages reflow at 200% zoom, and long text sits on a high-contrast reading surface.
- There are no time limits. Daily ranks use time only to break ties after guesses and clues, or mistakes.
Known limitations
We’d rather tell you what doesn’t work yet than let you find out mid-puzzle.
- A word guess is checked as soon as the fifth letter goes in. There is no review step, though a word that isn’t in the list never costs a guess.
- In Groups, your four picks are checked after a short pause, under half a second and shorter with reduced motion. You can unpick a word during the pause, but you can’t switch to a manual Check button.
- Colour assist adds symbols to word tiles. Groups bars change colour and always show their names, but carry no symbols.
- Vibration doesn’t work in iPhone and iPad browsers.
- Settings are stored per device and don’t follow your NHBCoin account.
- NHBCoin sign-in happens in NHBCoin’s own window, so its accessibility is outside our control.
- The game needs JavaScript and is in English only. These help pages work without JavaScript.
